Former Becker star and NDSU tight end, Matt Veldman, signed a rookie free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday, April 28. While not drafted Matt Veldman received interest from a lot of teams to participate in their rookie camp this month but decided on Jacksonville, "It is a good spot for me. Jacksonville provided me with the best chance to be able to compete right away," said Veldman.
A big part of Becker's only State Champtionship as a receiver, Veldman also won a National Championship with the Bison last year. He started all 15 games in 2011, catching a career-high 26 passes for 331 yards and three touchdowns. At 6'7" and 254 lbs, he's a punishing blocker and a big target for quarterbacks.
If successful during this month's camp, Veldman would be invited to training camp in July.
